Whatever is knocking you down is NOT strong enough knock you out” -Glenn Today is a great, but very rainy day in Texas, and let me tell you, it is so simple to let the weather affect how you dictate what your day is going to look like. For example, sunny days call for fun, bubbly, and bright feelings of seizing all of what the day has to offer. On the other hand, rainy, humid, and dark days can easily bring about gloomy feelings of sluggish movements and no motivation. I was determined to not let that happen today. I haven’t been able to take Glenn’s (CB Instructor, Waterside) class in far too long due to my school schedule, but with dead days happening at TCU, I was able to make it to his 9:30 am class. It was definitely a struggle putting my workout clothes on, and running in the hot rain to my car. In fact, my journey consisted of stepping straight into a warm puddle, soaking my favorite Hoka sneakers. I kept on trucking along until I got in my car and was on my way. At Cyclebar, there is always one song in the class, also know as the “Connect Ride.” I try to incorporate this in my spin classes now, because I swear, every single connect song always has a way of coming through to me in some sort of applicable and relatable way. During this 3–4 minute song, the instructor takes this time to allow the riders to connect within themselves and reflect, challenge, and pursue themselves while they ride. Too often, we put our efforts in doing things to help others, earn money, or worry about the future. It is crazy to think about the minimal time we take to just be in the presence of ourselves, without our mind racing about other things. We live in a society that defines our success by how much money we have; we live in a world that says helping others is admirable and praiseworthy; we live in a place where perfection is constantly on our shoulders, telling us to not fail, not fall, not screw up our futures. Well, what about those moments where life hits us hard, and we feel weak, broken, and unmotivated to do absolutely anything at all? Success seems way too far away, and every time we try and get up, circumstances hits us back down. We end up deciding that it is not worth it to keep picking ourselves up in the midst of the constant afflictions we keep encountering. Today, Glenn said something in his connect ride that really rung with me: “Whatever is knocking you down right now is not strong enough to knock. you. out.” Those words resonated within me. Nothing is strong enough to knock you out, whether or not you think different. As we “life” together, I want you to let this resonate with you, too. The cool thing about life is that we have choice. We get a say in what we will choose to do, say, or act upon.
The exciting part about life is that we sometimes don’t know what ends up happening. Life is unexpected. This unexpected may slap you in the face, but it may also change you, inspire you, grow you. So press in. We have an amazing life we get to live. Let’s start some “liv”-in!
